Kennebunk Basketry is owned and operated by basket maker Kathryn Polletto. She hand weaves all of her baskets in her studio, which is on the banks of the Mousam River in Kennebunk, Maine. The materials that are used in the construction of her baskets, include hand-pounded black ash, white ash, maple, natural materials and rattan. The rattan, which she dyes herself, is useful for adding color to the baskets. She creates several styles of free-formed traditional baskets, often combining both ash and rattan. Still partial to rib construction, her favorite basket to weave is the Appalachian egg basket. Kathryn also uses hand-pounded black ash for weaving smaller and miniature baskets.
