Warehouse Associate / Driver
The ReStore is a nonprofit business that supports Habitat for Humanity York County that specializes in the resale of new and gently used building materials, furniture, home goods and supplies to the public. Habitat for Humanity York County builds and repairs homes in partnership with low-to-moderate income families in York County, Maine. Retail Operations
- Help volunteers and managers to merchandise and fill the store with products throughout the day when not driving for donation pickups.
- Help with opening and closing duties of the ReStore, opening signs, POS, greeting customers, merchandising are a few examples, but other duties may arise.
- Assist in developing driving and warehouse safety standards and communicate and train volunteers in these practices.
- Help maintain organization and cleanliness in and outside the ReStore, as well as the interior and exterior of the truck. Some light yard work may require weed whacking/light mowing/shoveling in winter.
- Assist with customer pickup of purchased goods in the ReStore.
Inventory Management
- The Warehouse Associate works with the Driver to pick up donations from local donors in York County when needed.
- Must be able to drive a 16-foot box truck to facilitate picking up donated inventory.
- Empty the Truck(s) and donations area every day, multiple times a day with the help of store staff and volunteers. All donations must be brought back to the store and unloaded for sale, put in scrap metal, or thrown away.
- Assist with screening donations and adhere to criteria for accepting only donated materials that will be saleable in the store. Assist in the processing of donations as they are dropped off or unloaded from pick up.
- Must be able to pass a background check and have/maintain a clean driving record.
- Must be able to lift 40-50 lbs. repeatedly with proper equipment. The job requires bending, kneeling, lifting, and standing for long periods of time. The workplace is a warehouse with noise, concrete floors and varying temperatures. This is a non-smoking facility.
- Must have reliable transportation, an excellent attendance record and strong work ethic.
- Must be able to work with a diverse range of humans, kindness matters.
- Must be able to use a cell phone and vehicle navigation features with proper training.
Donor Relations/Experience/Marketing
- Provide exceptional customer service to donors and shoppers in the field and at the ReStore.
- Provide support for special events.
- Interact with donors at pickups, provide donation receipts and thank you cards as well as accept monetary donations.
Management & Reporting
- Maintain and support the truck maintenance logs.
- Record and report all gas receipts to management.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrate initiative represented by a sense of urgency, energy, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and follow up.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in working with volunteers, training in a positive and safe manner.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact.
- Current authorization to work permanently in the United States.
- Proficient in English, other languages welcome.
- Personal volunteer experience.
- Willingness to cross train and be flexible as staffing levels change, fill in for staff vacations, and other unforeseen events that may occur.
- Ability to thrive in an ever-changing environment and be willing to cross train.
No Direct Reports
Reports to ReStore Manager; also Lead Driver when on the truck
Term of employment: Full time, benefit eligible.
Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8-4 pm Saturday shifts are mandatory. Flexibility on start time to be determined with the applicant.
