FREE 3 Day Community Conference on the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse September 12-14 at the First Baptist Church on Canco Road in Portland, Maine.
3 Days. 10 Speakers. 1 Band. Free for Everyone. Keeping Kids Safe.
With the Maine average of child sexual abuse at 1 in 5 children being sexually abused before they are old enough to vote, local survivor, Catherine A Wilson, Founder and Executive Director of Stop Trafficking US, has dedicated her life to preventing childhood sexual abuse. Most recently, she has organized a collaboration effort with the help of generous community sponsors to create a unique inaugural three-day conference on child sex abuse prevention.
Wilson said "The 'Keep Kids Safe' project has made this event possible for not just professionals but families across New England, and has raised the substantial cost in advance so that tickets will be free, though seating is limited. Continuing education credits can be achieved for social workers, medical and first responder fields, and attendees of the conference. The National Guard is also offering credits to their sexual assault advocates." Wilson added "Victor Vieth, a well-respected national educator in the area of child abuse, will be the Keynote Speaker. He and his team from the Zero Abuse Project will lead the program along with our own home town heroes and survivors. A concert Friday night by Gina & The Redeye Crew will feature a few surprise special guests ? as part of the three-day event, and food trucks will be onsite at this concert and each day of the conference."
The public is welcome to attend for one day or all three days September 12-14. The Schedule is posted on the StopTraffickingUS.org site and the non-profit?s facebook page. With the exception of the law enforcement break-out session, every day is open to everyone. Onsite, staffed resource tables with information on agencies and services will be available for families, victims and advocates in the community.
