About Us

Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) exists to improve the health and health care of the communities we serve. Our values are six powerful words that embody the care we strive to provide to our patients: patient centered, respect, integrity, excellence, ownership, and innovation. On January 1, 2014 Goodall Hospital and Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC) merged to become SMHC. Combining the strengths of our organizations created a new, dynamic regional healthcare system and will ensure that York County residents have access to excellent health care for generations to come--close to home. Prior to the merger, SMMC provided quality care since 1906 and Goodall Hospital since 1928, with both medical centers accredited by the Joint Commission and members of MaineHealth. SMHC is a non-profit healthcare system including two medical centers, walk-in clinics, and multi-specialty physician groups consisting of over 200 physicians and eldercare facilities. As SMHC we serve most of York County, covering the following towns: Arundel, Biddeford, Buxton, Dayton, Hollis, Lyman, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Sanford, Springvale, Shapleigh, Alfred, Acton, and Waterboro.
