The Russians are coming! On Wednesday, December 13, at 7 pm, Christ Church is thrilled and proud to present in concert the St. Petersburg Men's Ensemble, a highly polished a capella quartet who will be presenting a varied program ranging from traditional Russian music to popular Christmas songs. Highly trained and educated vocalists Kirill Sokolov, Sergey Shapinsky, Andrei Volikov, and Vadim Smantser formed the group in 2003 to expand the known limits of vocal music. With just four performers, they present complex works generally performed by much larger groups. Their repertoire encompasses various epochs and styles, from ancient Russian chants to Western European chorales to contemporary compositions, along with Russian folk songs, and secular and religious music. To learn more about these very talented young men, visit their website http://sfcrook.com/steve_project/index.html The ensemble will have CD’s and Russian souvenirs available for purchase immediately after the concert.
The people of Christ Church are also pleased and excited to offer an exhibition of traditional Russian art along with the concert. Master Iconographer Marina Forbes, who was granted Awards for Artistic Excellence by The National Endowment for the Art in 2013, 2014 and 2015, will display a variety of framed paintings in the Russian orthodox tradition, available for purchase (average price $150). Her icons are on display in art galleries, churches and private collections in Russia, Europe and the US.
Suggested donation for the concert and art exhibit is $12, or $8 for seniors and students, or what one can give. Children under 12 years old are welcome at no charge. Neither the church nor the artists can accept credit cards, so please bring cash or checks for admission or potential purchases.
