SUMMARY:United Way Volunteer Reader Training
DESCRIPTION:United Way of York County is expanding its Volunteer Reader Project to more children and more communities in York County. According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation\, children who read at grade level by the end of third grade are four times more likely to graduate from high school. For that reason\, the project's goal is to help children reach literacy level by the end of third grade.\n\n\n\nVolunteer Readers will join the efforts of York County teachers by reading to young children (age three to third grade) who may need extra help in reading and literacy skills. Volunteers at United Way of York County achieve its mission of ensuring children experience those bright beginnings that result in academic success.\n\n\n\nUnited Way of York County invites interested individuals to a 'Meet and Greet' and Volunteer Reader training which will take place from 5 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday\, Sept. 23. Interested individuals should register at http://www.buildcommunity.org/civicrm/event/info?id=26&reset=1\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteer Reading is a project of the York County Volunteer Center at United Way\, which was founded in 1991 to increase community involvement in addressing community needs. The volunteer center holds days of service throughout the year as well as individual volunteer referrals. For more information about volunteering or becoming a volunteer reader\, please contact Shirley Sergent\, Volunteer Reader Project Coordinator at United Way of York County at 985-3359\,ssergent@buildcommunity.org.
