SUMMARY:Piano Concert & Art Exhibit - An Afternoon to Stir Your Soul
DESCRIPTION:Christ Church of Kennebunk presents pianist David Pihl in concert on Saturday\, December 1\, 2018 at 3pm.  The concert is entitled "An Afternoon of Piano Music to Stir Your Soul".  Featured works will be Schubert's Piano Sonata in B flat\, D 960 and works by seven American composers\, including John Alden Carpenter\, Amy Beach\, Scott Joplin\, Steven Peisch\, Edward McDowell\, Alan Hovhaness and Margaret Bonds.  The theme for this concert will be works that display lyricism and humanity.  In keeping with the emphasis on American composers\, there will also be an exhibit of paintings of American scenery by local New England artists\, Marina Forbes and Liz Roper.\n\n\n\nMr. David Pihl has performed in Germany\, the Czech Republic\, Mexico and throughout the Northeastern United States\, including at Carnegie Hall.   He has collaborated with acclaimed clarinetist\, Richard Stoltzman in numerous recordings and concerts.  Mr. Pihl has recorded chamber works\, a concerto for piano and orchestra and the complete "Twenty-Four Etudes for Piano" by William Thomas McKinley.  In reviewing his performances\, Fanfare magazine called his playing "brilliant".   He is the staff accompanist for the theatre department at Holy Cross College in Worcester\, MA and has taught at a number of colleges in Massachusetts.
