SUMMARY:Naturalist Walk at Oxbow Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Kennebunk Land Trust will host another Naturalist Walk on Sunday November 15\, from 12 noon to 2 pm.\n\nAre you interested in learning about birds\, plants\, ecology and other areas of natural history? Or\, interested in sharing what you know? If so\, join us! Kennebunk Land Trust is sponsoring bi-monthly natural history walks in the Kennebunk/Arundel area. The November walk will take place on Kennebunk Land Trust's Oxbow Preserve on Spiller Drive off Cat Mousam Road in Kennebunk(see directions below)\, and will focus on the status of plants and animals in mid-Autumn in a mixed conifer hardwood forest on the banks (Riparian Zone)of the Mousam River. Please note that this will be an easy to moderate walk with an initial moderate descent to the intervale next to the river\; a small portion of the trail is wet so wear appropriate footwear. The preserve has nearly three quarters of a mile of frontage along the Mousam River. Advance registration is not necessary. To learn more and to find notices of location visit Kennebunk Land Trust's Events page at www.kennebunklandtrust.org.\n\n \n\nOver the next year\, the naturalist walks will explore Kennebunk Land Trust preserves and other local hiking spots to encourage natural history discussions and education. Participants should come prepared for an outdoor excursion that is easy to moderate in pace. Please leave dogs at home. The walk will be facilitated by Maine Master Naturalists and KLT Board members\, Gordon Collins and Tony Liguori\, and will encourage experts and amateurs to discuss and share their knowledge of natural history.\n\n \n\nKennebunk Land Trust was established in 1972. It works to permanently conserve land and to date has protected more than 3\,500 acres to benefit natural and human communities. For more information about the Land Trust please visit www.kennebunklandtrust.org or call (207)985-8734.\n\n \n\nDirections to the Oxbow Preserve: From Route 1(Main Street) in the center of Kennebunk\, head south and make a right turn on High Street at the Dairy Queen. Then turn right on Cat Mousam Road (Route 99) and proceed for 0.9 miles. Turn right on Spiller Drive. At the point where Spiller Drive turns to the left (0.1 miles) turn right and park. The entrance to the preserve is straight ahead at the chain link fence gate.
