About Us

The Kennebunkport Historical Society exists to protect and preserve the unique history of Kennebunkport, Maine. In serving its mission, the Society stewards several historic properties, collections of art, antiques, artifacts, archives, photographs, books, diaries, and more. The collection is currently housed at the Pasco Center at 125 North Street, Kennebunkport, Maine. The Town House Corners Campus, located at 135 & 125 North Street, once the center of town, features a working blacksmith forge (an exact replica of the historic Benson blacksmith shop), an historic jail, David Clark’s original shipbuilding office, famous local artist, Louis Norton’s muraled studio, a barn, used for rotating artisan workshops, and the Town House School. Building History is a project highlighting hands-on historic crafts, trades, and hobbies and features workshops and camps for all ages. Overlooking Dock Square, White Columns is an historic mansion in the care of the Society. Tours of the home are offered in the summer months and during Christmas Prelude. The tour includes a brief history of Kennebunkport, an introduction to the beautiful collection of art and artifacts from the pre-civil war era, and an in-depth look at the family who lived there through the diaries they left behind. Additionally featured is a one room micro-exhibit of President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, summer residents of Kennebunkport.
